After what felt like a rough couple of weeks that included bouts of sadness, heartache and overall unease, I have been asking myself, what does it look like for me to love myself more.
Loving ourselves is a journey. As people, we are constantly evolving, changing, growing, and learning. When entering a new season of life, we might find ourselves changing our values, beliefs, and desires. We might start setting new boundaries and becoming more flexible versus rigid. We may let go of some people while making space to let new people in. During all this, self-love is always at the center of who we are, the values we create, and what we choose to pursue.
During this season of my life, as many things change and my emotions ebb and flow between grief and joy, I am learning what I need more of this season to grow closer to the goals that I’m trying to achieve.
In episode 23: How to Love Yourself More, I share the many ways I’ve been learning to develop deeper intimacy with myself while rediscovering myself.
A few key takeaways from this episode:
Loving yourself more involves self-compassion. You will make mistakes, and when you do, holding yourself accountable and learning from them will take you further in life than wallowing in pity in sadness without taking action.
Loving yourself more involves curiosity about life. You have so much more life to live. Stop setting limits on yourself because of your age or whatever arbitrary rule society has created regarding getting older. I encourage you to always be curious about life and what it offers. Continue setting goals, having dreams, visiting new places, making new friends, and reflecting inward regarding what you want more or of and what you want less of.
Loving yourself more involves setting boundaries. You can’t take on every task or be everything to everyone. You cannot deplete yourself of your energy and then expect to be able to live a life of abundance. Growing as a person involves learning to advocate for yourself and what you need. Be mindful of your limits and do the work of learning how to assert yourself. Your future self will thank you for standing up for yourself and the things you need.
