I hope you had a Merry Christmas. It’s Thursday, December 26th, and if you’re reading this, you made it through Mariah Carey’s holiday hits, the gift guides, Home Alone, and everything else resembling Christmas cheer. Now, brace yourself—milk chocolate candies wrapped in pink foil, pink sweaters, pink cupcakes—pink everything. By the second week of January, pink will take over.
But pause for a moment. Do you realize how magnificent, special, wonderful, glorious, and miraculous it is that you are here? You’re alive. You’re living.
Maybe you are living in deep grief, sorrow, pain, angst, anxiety, or agony.
Maybe you are living in the warmth and wonder of joy, happiness, triumph, or ecstasy.
Or maybe you find yourself living in both worlds—an eclipse of joy and pain, love and sorrow, gratitude and uncertainty, hanging above you as you look up, wondering about the life you’ve been given and breathing through.
It’s fascinating that we all live a life we never asked for. Yet, here we are—born into existence and tasked with figuring it all out. What’s next? What’s right? What’s wrong? What a responsibility!
Responsibility is defined as the state or fact of being accountable—or to blame—for something.
But here’s the truth: You are not to blame for your existence. Still, you are responsible for your choices. And with those choices come consequences. The person you aspire to be requires not only vision but effort.
The life you’ve been given is like a gemstone resting in your hand. Dirt, debris, dust, and countless challenges will try to tarnish its shine. Yet you are responsible for nurturing it, ensuring its glow never dims and its value never fades.
You are valuable.
I don’t know what kind of dirt and debris 2024 may have swept into your life, but despite it all, your worth remains undiminished.
We often treat the end of the year as a time to reinvent ourselves. But here’s the thing—you will always be you. There’s no changing that. What you can change, however, are your mind, attitude, behaviors, beliefs, values, career, and outlook on life.
I will always be Minaa, but how I define myself can shift—whether it’s in January, March, or September.
We are not confined by time; we are confined by the stories we tell ourselves and the limiting beliefs that hold us back.
As you step into the coming days, remember that change doesn’t have to wait for a new year or a specific moment. You hold the power to redefine yourself at any time. Embrace the freedom to rewrite your story, let go of beliefs that no longer serve you, and lean into choices that align with the person you hope to become.
Here’s to choosing yourself again and again.
Have a wonderful rest of the year. I’ll catch you in 2025!
